17. indexfinger

On day 17 I got the controversial subject “indexfinger” and a location yet again in residential Amager.

November

In November I was sent to Amager and the residential are around Amager Strand. I was going to find the subject “indexfinger” so I was quite convinced, that I had to create the subject myself. I was not hoping to find someone giving me the index finger.

Arriving at the location I considered how to approach the shot. Just taking a picture of my own index finger seemed trivial, but pointing my index finger at something, or someone, seemed extreme and cross-border for me.

I decided to point my index finger at a house with no-one visibly at home. Furthermore to reduce the extremity of the action – and to explore the technical aspect of it – I decided to do a double exposure, i.e. two exposures blended in one. I found a steady surface for the camera and did my two shot; one with my index finger, and one without. You can see the result below.

December

In December I was on a pre-Christmas holiday to Norway at my in-laws’ house. It’s in the countryside with no neighbours close by, so when I had to remake the photo, I basically had the choice of pointing my index finger at their house.

That was too drastic for me, as I have nothing against my in-laws, so instead of pointing at the house, I chose to point at the neighbouring forrest. I again made at double exposure, so the hand was only halfway visible in the photo. I took the following photograph.

Comparison

The only real resemblance between the photographs is the hand and index finger, and the double exposure technique, making the hand look ghost-like. The composition is attempted to be the same, but the hand’s position is off and the horizon is skewed.

Come back here again tomorrow to see my next photos in the challenge series.
