Day 19 of the challenge should turn out to be one of the life-changing days. Today’s word was “celebration” but that would not be the theme of the day.

November
In November I was sent to Amager and yet another residential area just behind a kindergarten. There was no obvious “celebration” nearby but I had others things on my mind.
My wife is a professional classical musician. She had played in a Danish orchestra for over a year, and had been on trial for the entire time; today was the day she got to know if she would get a permanent position or lose the job.
My wife is Norwegian and has most of her professional network in Norway, so if she didn’t get the job that would mean we would be moving to Norway. I have never lived more than a few months outside of Denmark, so it was a pretty big decision for both of us – only the decision was not in our hands but in the orchestra’s.
So I was walking around in Amager a few hours before the decision, trying to take a photo of “celebration”. So I took the photo below. Unfortunately it is not focus, but my smartwatch displayed a pulse of around 120, me anxiously waiting to find out, how my wife’s and my life would continue.
My wife didn’t get the job. The orchestra chose not to keep her, even though she had done everything they asked her and she’s probably the best they will get. It all turned out for the better, but she is much more happy where she is today than she could ever be in the orchestra.
January 6th 2020 we moved from Copenhagen to Oslo and are now starting our lives here.
December
In December we were still visiting in Norway and instead of trying to recreate the stressful situation of waiting and anxiousness I rather wanted to create a photo of calm and relaxation.
So I sat in front of the fireplace, got down my pulse and took the photo below. Again the camera was not able to focus so close, but my pulse was around 70, as I was much more relaxed.
Comparison
Technically the two photos are failed, being so out of focus that the main subject of the photo, my pulse, did not show. That aside the photos are not similar but instead trying to tell a story. In the first photo the pulse is high, as I’m anxiously waiting to find out what will happen, and in the second it’s calm and cosy, as I have reconciled to the change in my life.
Come back tomorrow and follow the rest of the challenge. You can also follow me on Instagram where I will post all photos and other photos from Denmark, Norway and the rest of the world.
