28. coach

Day 28, the third to last day and today’s word was “coach” with a location in the more “wild” part of Amager.

November

In November I was going to the western part of Amager very close to the harbour and quick far south in an area with no apartment buildings but instead a lot of “kolonihavehuse” (allotment houses).

The exact location was in a part with only vegetation and no houses, so looking for “coach” proved a bit difficult. I was looking for synonyms like a buss or a person, but didn’t fin any. Walking on I instead found a bright yellow and orange pole in the middle of the vegetation. It’s used for showing where dangerous cables, like power cables, are in the ground, so that construction workers won’t destroy it by accident.

The pole stood out with its bright colours in the brownish landscape, which made it perfect for a “coach”. Especially together with the fact that it guides (/coaches) workers to be careful when digging in the area. I took the photograph below.

December

In December I was thinking about how to recreate the shot. It wouldn’t be difficult to find a similar pole somewhere in Copenhagen as they are relatively common, but I wanted to to something else.

I lived near the metro line on the part of the track where it goes above-ground. Walking next to the line, I found a warning sign on the fence to the tracks (close to where I to the second shot of “incident”). The fence was overgrown with ivy to make it more nature-ish, so it fitted well into the theme of the first shot. I composed my frame and took the following photograph.

Comparison

Even though the two photograph are visually very different, the theme and the story of each photograph are very similar. The pole guiding workers where not to dig and the warning sign guiding people not to walk on the tracks. Visually they have the commonality of both having something man-made really stand out in (at least seamingly) wild nature.
